I know there are problems with these lists from boxofficemojo.com. I know you can make an argument that some of any film's box office success could be due to unique factors that perhaps artificially inflate the box office results for said film. And other films that didn't make the top 25 are due to the history and environment that said film was born into. There is an adjusted for inflation type list to help satisfy those issues. Now on to the part that excites me. :-) By the time Iron Man is finally finished making money at the theater it looks very much like the film will settle in at number 22 all time. Not too bad at all. Indiana Jones IV is on pace to pass Iron Man, to end it's box office run at 21 or so. These are both films I really enjoyed and I am happy to see them doing so well. For Iron Man it absolutely ensures that there will be a sequel. For Indiana Jones it ensures that if a sequel is desired by the creative crew they most likely have a green light no questions asked. I don't see Hulk sniffing any part of the top 50 let alone the top 25. WALL-E and The Dark Knight have the kind of potential to push IJ4 and IM down a notch or two.

Any chance that Iron Man might surpass Attack of the Clones? It's only a million dollars or so shy. I wouldn't mind if IM got past Clones, because the more I think about, the more I'm convinced Clones did not deserve the $310 million it made. It's the worst of the SW prequels, imo.

ram, Iron Man has done just that. As far as how the summer slugfest shakes down it appears IJ4 will indeed surpass IM but the competition isn't over. The Dark Knight, Hellboy II, X-Files and a few others have yet to weigh in. You never know how a movie will strike the public. We could have a sleeper pop up that could blow everyone away.

I'm definitely interested in The Dark Knight and the X-Files. I had been looking forward to the new Mummy movie too, but not after hearing that Rachel Weisz would not be in it. I'm not happy about that at all. That's like seeing Carrie Fisher for the first two Star Wars films and then having someone else play Leia in the third. That's just WRONG. But I might still see it because I loved the last two Mummy films. Brendan Fraser's gonna have to carry the whole thing by himself now.
If we're talking sleeper hits...then yeah, by their nature it's impossible to predict them. Titanic might not exactly have been a "sleeper" but who could've known that it would go on to totally own the box office? Maybe the most remarkable thing about the all-time box office list is how long Titanic has stayed at the top. It's been over a decade now, and it's still untouchable. Yeah, Shrek and Spiderman and Pirates have made gobs of money, but still, they haven't come anywhere near Titanic's, well, titanic numbers. It's all a battle for 2nd place. Okay, I'm hoping it's all a battle for 3rd, because I really don't want to see Star Wars drop any further. I never really paid much attention to Shrek 2, so I didn't know it came that close to Star Wars.
Anyway, after all this time, it's still hard to fathom Titanic's unbelievable success. I mean, a $600 million gross from a single movie still blows my mind. I'm seriously beginning to think I may not live to see another movie take the crown away from Titanic. Yeah, sure, I might have said that about Star Wars, too. And then E.T. And then Jurassic Park. But really, I can't imagine what kind of a special movie is out there that would unseat Titanic.
Not the Dark Knight, that's for sure. I don't doubt that it will do very well, but I don't think it's a guarantee that it'll match even Iron Man's or Indy 4's numbers.

All right, I might have underestimated the Bat guy. Saw in the paper today that The Dark Knight set a new record for the opening weekend box office, around $155 million (US), beating Spiderman 3. That's good! It surely has to be better than any of the Spiderman movies. I'm seeing TDK next week, to help it clobber Spiderman some more.

The performance of TDK has surprised me too. I expected that most genre fans would turn out in droves but apparently (considering the box office trend) Ledger's legacy and his apparent remarkable performance is bringing out just about everyone. I'll be giving up a few bucks myself at some point.
On another subject IJ4 will apparently overtake Iron Man soon, perhaps after or during this next weekend. However the crown may be passed over a second time if TDK continues to blast everyone's expectations.

I'm thinking there hasn't been this much hoopla over Batman since the '89 movie. The difference is that The Dark Knight really seems to deserve the accolade. Even Batman Begins didn't generate so much press, did it? Maybe I won't be able to hold out til next week...

Incredible Hulk has finally taken more at the box office than HULK. A shame IH cost 13 mil more to make. I know IH will be a popular DVD as will Iron man but it's personally disappointing to see the film struggle when I want very much for the Marvel approach to superhero films to succeed.

Well well well. Look at the Dark Knight, poised to topple Spiderman as the top domestic grossing superhero film of all time. (Spiderman may hold on to the international lead as it appears to have been more popular world wide) I still have not seen TDK so they haven't gotten my cash yet to throw on the pile. Very impressive. Also...I was convinced that IJ4 would eventually overtake Iron Man in the all time domestic take, however Iron Man apparently made more this weekend than IJ4 did actually extending it's lead instead of giving ground as it's done for weeks. You just can't predict how these things will turn out. :-)

Yeah, Indy 4 burned bright but brief. Fickle public.
The Dark Knight: it's going to make me eat my words here. On track to become the 2nd biggest moneymaker of all time? Holy box office, Batman, I had no idea.
I saw the movie. It was ASTOUNDING -- the best film I've seen so far this year.
