www.empireonline.com/50greatestcomiccharacters/Empire online has a feature the boasts the 50 greatest comic characters of all time. Many of the characters produced a "Who?" from me which I guess was kind of shocking but then again if I never heard of them is that my fault or are the books they exist in kind of obscure? Either way It was Amazing that Spiderman barely managed the top 5.

Hmmm, I recognized all put 2 of them, and both of those looked like newspaper characters from before I was born. As for the rest, I'd say the list was slightly biased in favor of DC, and while it's hard to argue Superman and Batman as #'s 1 and 2, I think Spider-man should be #3.

The term "Greatest" is subjective in the first place. Greatest could mean the most popular however that seems to change from day to day. From 2008 to only a few months ago it could be argued that Iron man and Batman were the most popular heroes. If you asked people today it might be Superman. In 2000 it might have been Wolverine. In 2002, Spider-man. In 1946 it might have been The Shadow. I wonder who it will be tomorrow.
