I think I've just set a personal record for longest period of time that I've NOT read a book. Comics, yes but no novels in probably a year. I think that's very bad.

That's funny, it's been the opposite for me: over the last few months I've read more books than I have in the last few years. Mind you, they've been relatively short and easy reads, but it's still an unusual binge for me.
One of those books was Philip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, which was the inspiration for the film Blade Runner. Dick's prose is smart and readable, which is no small feat. However, I'm sorry, but I feel that the book pales in comparison to the richness of the movie. I liked Dick's story for what it was, but I couldn't help feeling a bit disappointed. I got to the end and I thought: that's it? Maybe because the movie had lived in my head for so many years, I had built up super high expectations for the novel. All I know is that it didn't fire my imagination the way the movie did. The book is still a worthwhile read, but it might be more meaningful for someone who has never seen Blade Runner.
